The project

What does a 15-minute neighbourhood actually feel like to walk in — and for whom? This fellowship, undertaken as part of the Bengaluru Moving campaign, explored pedestrian infrastructure in Malleshwaram through destination surveys, walking audits and design workshops. The aim was to integrate the neighbourhood’s existing footpaths and conservancy lanes into a network that genuinely prioritises movement for the elderly, children and people with disabilities.

Supported under the Sustainable Urban Mobility Accord (SuMA) and the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), the project involved policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement and outreach alongside the survey work. The findings fed into a pilot implementation process and a broader effort to build consensus around what walkable urban infrastructure should actually deliver — beginning with the people for whom most footpaths currently fail.
